Yanmar Tractor Knuckle Seal Replacement

The knuckle seal is a pretty common leaking point. These seals are around 20 years old so they have started to get brittle. Plus, when the tractors are shipped to the US, the axles are drained so the seals tend to dry even more. Luckily, knuckle seal replacement is one of the easiest jobs you will do. It takes us less than 30 minutes per side.

90% of the Yanmar tractors are set up like one of the pictures below.

1- Drain the 4wd oil. Jack up the front of the tractor. Remove tire & wheel.

2- Unbolt the bolt(s) (A) in the picture above (depending on your knuckle type). Tap on the lower housing & it will separate from the upper housing. You may have to wiggle and tap at the same time to get it to separate.

3- Pry the seal out using a big flat screwdriver. Replace the seal & re-assemble in reverse order.
