Hoye Tractor Parts Addition 2007
7,000 square foot addition

There is a lot of dirt to move! Our new driveway alone required around 200,000 cubic feet of fill. We had to raise the entire thing over 10 feet. These big box blades can move a lot of dirt in a day. We move the dirt when it is slightly damp so it packs rock hard.

Here you can see the finished pad. This completely level pad is around 200'x100'.This box blade has a 2,000 lb weight on the back and does an incredible job of packing the dirt as it is moved.

The fill dirt is packed so tight that the concrete crew had to use pick axes to dig the trenches for the footings!

The perimeter footings are poured and the plumbing is now going in. Concrete is scheduled to be poured on Sat Jan 3rd 2008. There is also a 60% chance of rain (again) that day.

Here is a better shot to show the scale of this project. The forklift is parked on around 5' of fill from the first building project 2 years ago. Go right from the forklift 100' and there is well over 10' of fill. (we should have bought flatter land).

The fill dirt is packed so tight that the concrete crew had to use pick axes to dig the trenches for the footings!

Concrete work began at 7:00am. The concrete pump truck was incredible! The driver said that he can pump the concrete straight up the 100' boom ( the boom is bent in half in the picture. They also have a 140 foot boom! Overall the slab took 17 truck loads and 2 bags of redy-mix (they ran about 5 gallons short :) of concrete and looks amazing.

These guys work fast and know how to pour concrete! The crew could have had the entire 7,000 square feet (17 truck loads) poured in 1 hour but they had to wait on a the trucks a few times.

The finished slab. Hard to tell from this picture but it incredibly flat. The concrete will cure for 7 days and welding should begin on Monday Feb., 14 2008

March 31 2008

Work has finally resumed!! After 2 months of contractor delays the workers are finally back. With any luck we should be enjoying 14,000 square feet in about a month.
